for any representative democracy in our times. Where the how to write literary essay conclusion vote is a right, the concept of liberty commands that the non-vote is also a right and cannot be infringed upon by the state. Even though there are numerous advantages of the election in democratic nations, the majority of people especially in the developing countries have not fully realized such advantages. Aside from Australia, countries such as Belgium, Cyprus, Singapore, Argentina, and Luxembourg have laws for compulsory voting. In this indirect democracy the elections play the most important role in shaping the destiny of the people, and the people, while exercising their franchise, constitute the real source of power in the elections as they make their choice and elect only those in whom. Some political analysts attribute low voter turnout to public apathy and accuse non-voters of being lazy or too forgetful, however this is not always the case. Thus, people participate in the election process where they elect their representatives in parliament and Senate. In this way, people maintain their control over the government because their representatives know that they can be voted out of power in the next elections if they do not respect the wishes of the people and work for their welfare. However, some democratic nations do not follow this noble criterion. Democratic engagement is a right, and perhaps a duty-but in a free society, it should be open to citizens not to take part if they do not wish to do so (White and Young 2007, 7). I reviewed how philosophers have conceptualized the ideals of democracy, liberty, and equality and how their theorizing relates to the issue of compulsory voting. And this conscious participation cannot but remain a far cry, if the majority of the electorate is left languishing in the morass of poverty, ignorance and superstitions. Citizens of a democratic nation normally have their voice and resentment against the ruling government hence they can vote for other parties to form a new government. Thus, election is crucial for itself and in itself. This is typically carried out on a regular basis after every five years.
